Not a day goes by where President Donald Trump accomplishes something that has not happened in the last 8 years. The most recent amazing change he has made is concerning the latest stats on food stamp enrollment from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The reports show that since President Trump has taken office, over 1.1 million American citizens do not have to take welfare in the form of food stamps.
The most recent data reports that participation in the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) has dropped from 42,692,363 in January, to 41,496,255 in May this year. This means that it took President Trump just a few months to decrease the SNAP enrollment by 2.79 percent. WOW!
This is the lowest level of food stamp participation since 2010.
The likely reasons that have contributed to the enormous decrease was Trump’s proposal to cut SNAP in his 2018 budget proposal, suggesting that states match up to 20 percent of federal money allotted for the food stamp program, and expand work requirements for capable adults receiving food stamps.
Another consideration is that the President Trump has a strong immigration policy causing those illegal immigrants to be concerned of possible deportation or risks of citizenship and therefore canceling their food stamps.
In comparison, Barack Obama had 33,490,000 people on food stamps benefits when he first became President, an increase happened by the end of his presidency bringing it up to 44,219,123. You can see how President Trump cares not only about our country but our citizens tax money must be put to good use.
